Radon Gas is found all over the US. It comes from naturally decaying uranium. It then gets into the air you breathe and the water you drink.
When to Test for Radon?
If you plan to sell your home or purchase a home, most buyers want to see a radon test report dated within 2 years
If renovations or remodeling has occurred recently within your home
If you plan to occupy the basement level soon (a family room or home office)
Every few years a radon air test can be performed for your own peace of mind.
What is the Risk Levels of Radon?
The Average outdoor level of Radon is .4pCi/L
The Average indoor level is 1.3pCi/l (EPA)
High Risk = Test results above 4.0 pCi/L-Mitigation strongly recommended
Moderate Risk=Test results between 2.0 and 4.0 pCi/L-Mitigation recommended
Low Risk=Test results below 2.0 pCi/L-Mitigation optional
How is Radon Tested?
For Air: an air test is set-up in your home to measure the radon level, which then is sent to a laboratory for the results.
For water: a water sample is taken from your home and sent to a laboratory for results.
